Usually, after lunch every Tuesday I stop by Best Buy to pick up the latest DVD releases. Its usually a lock every Tuesday that I'll walk back into the office after lunch with a new DVD... although there are weeks that nothing comes out that I want. This week was just as the usual ones... come walking back into the office with a DVD.
This week its the newly released Special Edition of Escape from New York.
Buying this DVD brought me back to a day long long ago... back when I was a little thinner, a little shorter, with more hair (hehe) and lived with my parents cause I was too young to live on my own. It brought me back because Escape from New York was the first (or the first that I still remember) R-rated movie I was actually allowed to watch.
I dont remember what the occasion was, or if there was in fact an occasion at all... but I do remember my Dad calling me downstairs to watch it. This was a time even before I had a TV in my room, Im thinking a few years before my teens. It wasnt a toned down, washed out TV version of the movie either... it was a regular gritty version. I dont remember what channel it was on (maybe HBO?)... and even though its actually kinda tame by todays movie standards, it was a big deal when I was that age; especially since I was allowed to watch it.
I remember liking the movie, and its really the only time Ive ever seen it. I havent seen it since on network TV, or on HBO... not HBO mainly cause when he had and didnt have HBO always flucuated. I remember bits and pieces of the movie... definitely enough from likeing it that sparked me to buy it today.
Just one of them little moments of dejavu... driving back to the office with this DVD, remembering the only day I saw it back when I was just a small boy; although still with a mighty hefty cranium.
