Back to life, back to reality

Well, the trip is over. Technically, the overall trip was over late Sunday afternoon... although the Geneva-on-the-Lake portion ended late Friday. Left the confines of my families quiet cabin on the Lake late Friday to accompany some friends to Kennywood on Saturday... just to finish off the vacation with an amusement park trip.

The cabin was just as they usually are... kinda boring, but a damn good way to relax. You really dont have much choice but to slow down in a cabin on Lake Erie, just because your choices are limited. We had some more than usual choices, being in Geneva... cause its mainly a little county fair type place; with arcades, little food stands and small kiddy rides. It made a little more interesting than our usual cabin stays, with a little more stuff to do... but not too much, that it still made me slow down.

Course I cant complain about my laptop picking up a stray wireless internet signal either. I ket thinking how much of a nerd I must be, to be excited to have the internet when Im supposed to be on vacation... but I spent as little time as possible using it, so I could use my time to spend with the folks, my sister, my bro-in-law and their kids (who Id kill you all for, I think Ive mentioned).

Kennywood just happened to be on a day during the family excursion... so I figured since Id spent all week with the family, I could slip away a day or two early.

Rained most of the time we were at Kennywood... not hard enough to shut down any rides, but just enough to make us all a little soggy and make it sting a little traveling 85mph on their Phantoms Revenge coaster. I was slightly disappointed in Kennywood... its just not a big park. They have 5 real coasters... the Phantoms Revenge and the (indoor) Exterminator were their steel contributions; the rest were wooden coasters. Dont get me wrong, I love to ride coasters... but for some reason, as Im getting older, my tendency for motion sickness has intensified enough that I have to take Dramamine now (something I never had to do in my early years).

My motion sickness intensifying makes it slightly less an enjoyable ride on wooden coasters... cause they beat the shit out of you. I still ride them till Im damn near gonna cough up my lunch, cause I refuse to let my motion sickness control what I do; until I have no other choice but to stop for a little bit. For some reason, unless theres a lotta sharp turns or loops and such... modern coasters dont phase me much; although there are exceptions. Unfortunately I rode too many wooden coasters, and was a little woozy... so I ended up not riding The Exterminator, which limited my coaster riding.

I much prefer larger parks, (with more coasters) like Cedar Point or Geauga Lake (formerly 6 Flags: Worlds of Adventure). I know Im a glutton for punishment... but its such fun punishment!

Back to vacation though... in conclusion, it was a good week; something Ive grown accustomed to having renting cabins for the family vacation for the last 16 years. Nice to get away... nice to slow down.

And now back to our regularly scheduled life... full of work, regular internet use and Excedrin.

Battle scars

or wait, wait... I have a better one...

First Blood: part Woods

Normally on my bike rides through the woods, theres always little things the woods throws at me to obstruct my ride... usually consisting of tree branches I just cant hop over, or slippery mud spots, etc. For all the time so far, its always consisted of me stopping and moving over/away from whatever obstruction.

My widdle boo-boo

It never stops the woods from trying to do more damage... and today was its first small victory. Enjoy it while you can wooded area, for it will soon spell your doom... or something like that.

Better late then really, really late

10 days. Its been 10 days since my last post. This is the longest Ive gone without writing something in this little journal of mine; and to be honest, I hadnt really noticed. I didnt think itd been that many days since the last time I wrote something... just wasnt paying attention.

Isnt like Ive been so busy I havent had time. Its been, more or less, the same routine this whole time... work, home, friends and some bike riding in between. Actually the bike riding has been taking up more time than usual... just because the weathers been decent enough that I can go mountain biking in the woods, where I enjoy it more. Always come out muddy and in pain... but its always worth it.

Gonna try my hand at a little photo competition soon too. Every year, or as many as Ive known them, my buds Marc and Devon enter some of their photos in the annual Canfield Fair competition. Last year I asked them to remind me about it... cause I was definitely interested, and sure enough (even though I didnt remember) they let me know about it so I could enter this year.

Im not all that worried about winning, but Im not gonna lie that it wouldnt be cool if I did. Entrants can enter 3 photos total, classified in a couple different categories they have. For my first year entering, I signed up to submit a landscape, an animal and an open category they have; which occupies still life, building, etc.

Course now Ive begun going through all my old photographs, just looking to see what I might already have in the categories I selected; and kicking myself for some Ive taken in years/months past I took at too low a resolution. Theres still quite a few I could use... but I also wanna go out and take some specific for this competition.

Gonna take time, time, time... just like everything else does. Lets hope I dont lose track of all of you any longer than I did this time around; not that you care anyway.

Ear cleaning

Sitting here at work, and we routinely listen to the radio while working. What we listen to ranges from the lcoal oldies, classic rock or rock stations... today we happen to be listening to the classic rock station, Y103 for those who know the stations.

A song by a guy named Billy Squire, called "Shes a runner" was just on; and until I heard the name of the song, after it was over... I could swear to you the chorus sounded like it "Shes a lardass" not a runner, like the title is.

Misinterpretations of the funny kind

A couple times a week, myself and my good buds Marc and Devon go out to lunch together on our lunch breaks. Its my little sanity break on some days, so I try to go out as much as possible for lunch.

A place we go to occasionally is the local Chinese/American buffet... Grand Buffet for anyone who knows the area. Well, at the end of every meal, we get fortune cookies with our check... a common occurence with any oriental dining establishment.

One day, after Marc read his fortune, he started laughing. Devon and I, obviously curious, asked him what was so funny... so he showed us his fortune.

Enjoy!

At first we didnt get the joke, what he was laughing at, until he explained it. When he first read it, he read the word "in" as the word "and."

I'll let you figure it out on your own... but it was funny, whether you think so or not.
